Wes grew up on a small farm in the Sierra Foothills outside of Auburn, California where he graduated from Placer High School. He received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of California Davis in Rhetoric and Communication with a minor in Environmental Geology. At UCD, he played collegiate football and produced his own radio show for four years at KDVS 90.3 fm while leading the KDVS News Department for two years.
Wes moved to Los Angeles after graduation and has amassed 24 award-winning years in the entertainment industry. From writing and producing on-air promotions for FOX Kids, Kids WB, UPN, CBS & FOX Family to five plus seasons editing and storytelling on the hit dating show Blind Date, Wes has seen it all. One of his most recent TV successes was ABC's The Bachelorette (Season 11) which drew its highest ratings in many years. For 10 plus seasons, Woodland’s story contributions have been seen by millions of viewers on the number one rated daytime talk show, CBS Television’s Dr. Phil.
Wes has directed many celebrities and sports figures including Jeff Gordon, Kenny Wallace, Frankie Muniz, Dr. Phil, Mark Burnett, Roger Lodge, Gary Busey, Michael Keaton, Charlie Rose, Sydney Pollack, Fred Silverman and more.
In 2004, he founded Str8Up, Inc., an independent production company working with a host of amazing partners including Discovery Studios, NBC Universal, NBC Universal On-Demand, ABC Family, CBS Television Distribution, Disney Channel, Renegade 83, mTV, Beantown and KCRA Sacramento. In 2011, the Str8Up team was recognized by the California Governor's Spotlight Award for their philanthropic work with Aztlan Athletics.
Wes is a nut for shows that highlight larger than life characters, immersive adventures, pulse pounding motor-sports, clean energy and the great outdoors.
Woodland is a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Science, The Motion Picture Editor’s Guild and The Writer's Guild of America. His AWARDS include a Golden Marble for Power Rangers, PROMAX honorable mention and multiple EMMY nominations, most recently “Outstanding Multi Camera Picture Editing” on the Dr. Phil show.
The newest member of the team is Igor “Igoravitch”. Pure energy, he is one quick hombre. Besides being the coolest Boston Terrier ever, he is also Str8Up Studios’ official Mascot acting “DC1” (which means doggy-cam one). When Igor is not dragging his most favorite knotted rope around, he loves to give loads and loads of tongue licking puppy love.
